Twin Industrial Silos – Deep Foundation

Project Description:

Nord Engineers delivered the deep foundation design for twin industrial silos, each 32 m in diameter and carrying 10,000 Metric Tonnes of load, under challenging ground conditions. The site comprised reclaimed land with weak and variable soil strata, posing risks of low bearing capacity and differential settlement.

Challenge

The site comprised reclaimed land with weak and variable soil strata, posing risks of low bearing capacity and differential settlement.

Solution

A pile-raft foundation system was engineered, comprising 150+ cast-in-situ bored piles extending up to 22 m depth, supporting twin raft foundations structurally integrated through an underground tunnel to ensure uniform load transfer and settlement control. Designed for Indian Seismic Zone IV.
